2 Facial Tools to Bring the Spa Home

Stacked Skincare Review

(Stacked Skincare Micro-Roller, $30 | Stacked Skincare Dermaplanning Tool, $75)

Before I dive imangledfacen the admittingly unnerving world of at-home skin perfecting tools with the words ‘blades’ and ‘needles’ in their description, it can make any skincare aficionado apprehensive. Now I’m not squeamish when it comes to needles, I’ve had lasers and chemical peels all which cause some discomfort, and the thought of rubbing 540, .3mm tiny needles onto my face for the sake of beauty sounded tolerable to me. What I didn’t buy into was the thought of the infection, or not healing properly afterwords. My mangled face, the absolute horror! (see right)

Everyone is different of course, I have a lot of health issues I’m currently dealing with and definitely wanted to proceed with caution. But I came to realize with more information that at home dermarolling is much different than microneedling at a dermatologist’s office or licensed medical spa. They use an actual Skinpen that punctures deep holes beneath the layers of your skin causing blood to draw to the surface. This in turn is stimulating your skin’s natural ability to repair itself and builds collagen.

Created by Kerri Benjamin who used to suffer from severe eczema as a child later in life, she began research to remedy her issue and the company Stacked Skincare was born in 2009. It’s pretty simple, she has broken down Stacked Skincare into categories like serums, peels, and tools. The Micro-Roller is Stacked Skincare most popular tool as it’s easy to see why.

(Stacked Skincare Collagen Boosting Micro-Roller, $30)

By micro-rolling and making those tiny injuries in the skin, you’re putting collagen production into overdrive and literally thickening the skin filling in lines and under-eye bags. I made sure to cleanse my face, apply a priming serum, and started rolling away. I went in all directions, only going over areas once or twice. It was painless, and my skin was a little flushed. I applied a moisturizer and went to bed. Woke up the next morning and my skin looked amazing! I don’t plan on using it more than once a month. But I am looking forward to making this apart of my regular beauty regimen. *Be sure to formally sterilize like any other surgical instrument in between uses, alcohol should work perfect.

Ststackedskincare4acked Skincare’s Dermaplaning Tool is their second most popular tool. Designed to provide similar results to an in-office dermaplaning treatment, safely remove peach fuzz and dead skin cells with this non-invasive exfoliation tool for instantly smoother and brighter skin. This is another tool that can be used once a month and be done with. You’ll be left with baby soft skin. When you’re actually doing it, it may look like something out of a horror movie, but it’s completely painless unless you have a shaky hand. I would suggest you leave it to the professionals.

This Secret Ingredient Is a Savior for Super-Dry Skin

Biossance Squalane Skincare Cover Photo Review

(Biossance Vitamin C + Rose Oil, $72 | Biossance 100% Squalane Oil, $58)

Le Petit Mondea has touted the benefits of Biossance skincare products last biossance dec 2016 screenshot  December of 2016:

Today we are revisiting two old favorites with newly re-designed and re-packaged squalane oil favorites of ours. First what is squalane? The key to squalane’s topical skincare success is that its molecular structure resembles our own skin’s design. The similarity allows it to penetrate the skin completely and synthesize quickly (2mm per second), so it won’t clog pores or leave a greasy residue behind. It’s also odorless and colorless, which are great properties of a moisturizer. Plus it has a shelf life of over two years.

  • It’s safe for all skin types, even the most sensitive.
  • It can be used on body, even in hair.
  • It’s consistency is thin and lightweight.
  • Non-toxic
  • Fragrance-free
  • Paraben free
  • Phthalate free
  • Mineral oil-free
Biossance Squalane Vitamin C Rose Oil
(Biossance Squalane + Vitamin C Rose Oil, $72)
Biossance Squalane Vitamin C Rose 2
(Biossance Squalane + Vitamin C Rose Oil, $72)

What you really want to know, is this the elixir of life? Can it replace all of my current serums, lotions, creams, magical potions? Yes and no. It will moisturize, if not better than your current moisturizer or oil routine. There are recent studies underway proving how effective Squalane may be as an anti-aging ingredient. Because it penetrates deeply, it may help to lessen the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles. Studies show it can stimulate cell turnover similar to Argan oil. Biossance adds the collagen enhancing benefits of oil soluble vitamin C to brighten and fight free radicals to their Squalane + Vitamin C Rose Oil. If that isn’t a miracle elixir, I don’t what is.

And feel good knowing that since up to 60% of what you put on your body can be absorbed into your bloodstream, squalane also plays an important role in your overall health and well-being. Early studies have shown that increased intake, via ingestion of squalane has helped lower the risk of breast cancer and pancreatic cancer. Squalane has also been reported to lower cholesterol levels, protect against the common cold, improve blood circulation and the appearance of varicose veins, and increase overall natural energy. So I’m calling it, the elixir.

Biossance can now be purchased at Sephora retailers.

It’s Not The 60’s But It Sure Feels That Way?

Province Apothecary Lavender Essential Oil Incense

(Province Apothecary Lavender Incense, $16)

When you hear the word incense, some may instantly associate the word with “hippy”, as the air was thick in 1960 with free-flowing incense and any other popular mood enhancing medley or concoction, I’m guessing. In today’s culture incense is often used in religious ceremonies and for recreational purposes like filling up yoga studio rooms. Burning incense is a peaceful act, and provides a relaxing environment unless you 1. have a headache, or 2. hate smoke. But at the end of a bad day at least you can light your incense and make the room smell fanfrickingtastic!

Province Apothecary Lavender Incense
(Province Apothecary Lavender Incense, $16)
This particular incense is a little different from the rest. Immediately opening from the package it packs a powerful punch of intense natural, real essential oil lavender. I pictured myself like I usually do(in my dreams of course) walking through a huge field of deep purple lavender in Provence France, and it’s about 65-70 degrees and I’m wearing a nice white dress.. oh sorry, I digress. The scent is calming and relaxing.
Province Apothecary infuse charcoal incense by hand with wild-crafted essential oils to bring you effortless aromatherapy for your everyday spaces. Each package contains 20 sticks. They also infuse their incense with pure therapeutic essential oils, no nasty + toxic fragrance oils. Go. Get. Yours. Now.

Treat Your Skin 5 Ways With Para Goods Luxurious Products

Para Goods Review
Para Goods Review 2
(Para Immortal Facial Serum | Para Jasmine Sandalwood Tonic Mist | Para Nenekti Purifying Mask, $38)

Instead of spending your weekend lounging in bed while watching Netflix, try multitasking to improve your complexion whilst binging on your favorite guilty pleasure shows. Treating your skin better is an ongoing process, as anyone with skin woes can attest, but making several small tweaks can bring you within reach of a better complexion over the next three days.

Come Friday morning, you will be fresh-faced and radiant despite subsisting on no sleep, trans-fat-laden-foots, and day-old makeup. Here are five simple ways to treat your skin better this week.

  1. Give Yourself An At-Home, 10-Minute Facial

    Para New York Review
    (Para Nenekti Purifying Mask, $38)

You may be under the impression that a facial is an expensive, in-office treatment which requires at least an hour of your precious leisure time. However, you only need ten to fifteen minutes this week for an abbreviated, at-home treatment which will leave you refreshed and radiant for the weekend ahead. First, prep your face by removing makeup with wipes or a gentle liquid formula. Next, cleanse your face with a massaging motion to remove trapped dirt, relieve stress, and potentially improve the tone and circulation of your skin. Next, use a gentle exfoliant to rid skin of dead skin cells, which tend to be more prominent in dry winter weather.

After your face has been washed and rid of flakes, slather on a 10-15 minute mask like Para’s Nenekti’s Purifying Mask. Activating this mask with water releases the soft scent of Mexican hot cocoa to help you unwind and indulge in a moment of self care. Formulated to reduce inflammation, deeply cleanse the pores, and exfoliate dull skin, Nenekti possesses potent antibacterial herbs cinnamon, tulsi and hyssop; redness reducing and healing zinc; clay for deep pore cleansing and pore minimizing; antioxidant and youth preserving cocoa powder; acne busting turmeric; and wrinkle reducing frankincense.

  2. Use A Moisture Packed Mask To Calm & Sooth Skin

    Para New York Review 3
    (Para Soma Raw Honey Mask)

Try Para’s Soma Raw Honey Mask. The basis of this mask is skin loving raw honey.  It is full of phyto-nutrients antioxidants, enzymes, and minerals, all of which repair and maintain the natural radiance of our skin.  A touch of beeswax acts as a humectant drawing moisture to the skin for re-hydration.

  3. Mist Your Face With An Anti-Bacterial Toner

Para’s Jasmine Sandalwood’s Tonic Mist is made with silver, which keep breakouts at bay. A blend of vanilla, jasmine and ylang ylang are well known aphrodisiacs that also act as antidepressants. Sandalwood and jasmine are both hydrating and calming to the skin and ylang ylang balances the sebaceous glands.

  4. Layer Products Accordingly. First Serum, Balm/Moisturizer, and Oil if Needed.

    Para Goods Review 4
    (Para Immortal Serum)
  5. Layer Next Step, Moisturizer. Then Oil.

Para’s Chaya is a light beauty balm and easily absorbed, just like the above Immortal Serum, the beauty balm can be layered. It’s made with supercritical whole plants like turmeric and chamomile that are exceptionally calming to inflamed and sensitive skins in need of relief from rosacea, acne, or eczema. Next apply your favorite oil or Para Goods Immortal Facial Oil. It’s a great multi-functional skin repairing powerhouse and feels so opulent. It has a sensuous scent of woodsy sandalwood that leaves you intoxicated.

New in: Cosmetics | Bite Beauty

Bite Beauty Lip Pencil

From Angelina Jolie’s signature soft smile to Kylie Jenner’s pillow-y pucker, full lips will always be on trend. But contrary to popular belief, you don’t have to go to extreme measures in order to get a similar look. Faking a full lip is really just about accentuating the natural perimeter of your lips with the right tools and techniques. Use our step-by-step guide to fake a natural, fuller pout.

Using Bite Beauty’s Lip Pencil, an artisanal tool with high precision texture that defines the lip line and is a perfect all-over, opaque lip color. Apply the lip liner in a shade closest to your natural lip shade as a base to help create a little definition. We chose shade 020 Neutral. Take the pencil and curve it around your Cupid’s bow and trace outside the borders of your bottom lip to create the perception of a fuller pout.

After you’ve lined the outside of your lips, fill them in to create a base that’ll help your lipstick last longer. This helps to ensure that your lips will still look natural by not applying liner too far outside of your lips.

Bite Beauty Lip Pencil Review
(Bite Beauty 020 Lip Pencil, $18 | Bite Beauty Amuse Bouche Honeycomb Lipstick, $26 | 044 Lip Pencil, $18 | Whiskey Amouse Bouche Lipstick, $26)

Apply a nude lipstick that matches the liner to both your top and bottom lip. We suggest Bite Beauty’s Amuse Bouche’s lipstick in Honeycomb, make sure to apply an even amount of coverage. If you need to, take a napkin and blot it out. Take a flat lip brush to fully blend the lip liner and lipstick for an even look.

It sounds weird–but bronzer or highlighter is a key step. Take your lip brush and apply a tiny bit of bronzer under your lip. This tricks the eye into thinking the lip is naturally full.

And Voilà! You’ve got yourself a set of full, natural lips.

The Lazy Girls Guide to Glowing Skin

Ice Cubes
(Photo: Kinfolk)

Not all tricks need to hurt your wallet.

Step 1. Rub an ice cube all over your face. Trust us when we say this works. You know that post-gym glow you love so much? This is the easiest way to fake that.

Blissoma Glow Good Earth Review
(Blissoma Glow Good Earth Exfoliant, $40)

Step 2. Use an exfoliant powder, I recommend Blissoma Glow. Place 1/2 tsp of powder in your palm. Wet it and mix with fingers to create a paste. Apply to damp skin alone or mix into your facial cleanser. Massage the powder into the skin for at least 2 to 3 minutes with gentle pressure, avoiding the eye area. When the paste begins to dry remove it with warm water and gently pat dry. Moisturize to finish the skin. Optimal usage of 2 to 3 times per week.

It’s so gentle, I use it 3-4 times weekly. The scent is a little off-putting, it smells like.. dirt but that doesn’t keep me away to get the benefits from the active ingredients like 8% vitamin C, a rich base of beta-glucan, oat flour and papain enzymes.

Humidifier
(Crane Air Drop Humidifier, $49)

Step 3. Try sleeping with a humidifier. It’s simple, and it’s a great excuse to go back to bed. Flip the switch on and take a nap. You’ll wake up feeling and looking more refreshed.

Does you skin need a little TLC? Let us know you’ve tried one of the above tricks in the comments!
