Trending: K-Beauty COSRX

(COSRX Propolis Light Ampoule, $28 | COSRX BHA Blackhead Power Liquid, $22)

COSRX, which stands for cosmetics + RD (prescription), it’s a Korean based brand that creates its products directly from the needs and feedback of their very dedicated customers. It has gained cult status and it seems like nearly every skincare blogger has singing its high praises.

The packaging design of all the COSRX products is simple, minimal and similar. They all come in a white cardboard box with a black area where the product name is written in. The rest of the cardboard box contains detailed descriptions in English and Korean.

COSRX Propolis Light Ampoule claims to heal damaged skin while nourishing it with moisture and nutrients. Ideal for dry and rough skin types, this silky hydrator increases skin softness and suppleness, leaving skin radiant, plump, and dewy. It contains black bee propolis. So what exactly is propolis and why would you put it on your skin? Bees make propolis, which they use to glue the materials of their hives together, by mixing beeswax and other secretions with resins from the buds of conifer and poplar trees. Those resins have natural germicidal properties. In skincare, propolis’s antiviral and antimicrobial action provides wonderful benefits for acneic skin as well as those of us who deal with a lot of environmental pollution. It forms a barrier just like how bees use it, and is very nutritious with antioxidants and vitamins, hence it’s growing popularity in skin care.

You will spot glycerin and hyaluronic acid as moisturizing ingredients, too. Also, the Cassa Obtusifolia Seed Extract has skin conditioning properties, as well as panthenol. If you’re new to ampoules, the consistency will be thick when applied and dry down to slightly tacky. But it makes for a cost effective layer-able moisturizer!

This is COSRX most talked about product: COSRX BHA Blackhead Power Liquid. Do you have visible pores? Then you probably know the constant struggle of trying to keep them clean so that they’ll look smaller and less noticeable, especially on the cheeks and in the T-zone. Primers and makeup can work wonders to hide them, but the goal is to have great skin.

Salix Alba, (Willow) Bark, Water, Butylene Glycol, Betaine Salicylate, Niacinamide, 1,2-Hexanediol, Arginine, Panthenol, Sodium Hyaluronate, Xanthan, Gum Ethyl Hexanediol

What do they do?

1. Betain Salicylate is the BHA portion of this toner and comes in a concentration of 4% (which is equivalent to a 2% salicylic acid).

2. Niacinimide is a form of vitamin B3 that can do everything from reduce pores and fine lines while promoting smooth, even skin tone and texture. Miracle ingredient people!

3. Sodium hyaluronate has the ability to boost skin’s moisture content, reduce inflammation and reduce moisture loss to keep skin hydrated.

One thing I really appreciate about COSRX BHA Blackhead Power Liquid is the way it feels after application. BHAs can be quite drying, this hydrates and exfoliates yet dries down within minutes and feels just hydrating enough to prevent tightness or discomfort without leaving any discernible residue behind.

It isn’t greasy or slimy and is only slightly thicker than water.

I would highly recommend this product to anyone with acne, blackheads, enlarged or clogged pores, or those with dry skin that are looking for an effective yet gentle acid exfoliating toner.

COSRX has several alcohol-free toners for different skin conditions, as well as cleansers, moisturizers and treatments.

A New Rose Fragrance That’s Anything But ‘Grandma’ | Ellis Brooklyn

Ellis Brooklyn Rrose Fragrance

(Ellis Brooklyn Rrose Eau De Parfum, $100)

Ellis Brooklyn is a line of fragrances in the form of body lotions, created by New York Times beauty columnist Bee Shapiro. I was intrigued as soon as I heard about them because the scents were developed with famous “nose” Jerome Epinette – the perfumer behind my all-time favorite Byredo perfumes. Ellis Brooklyn marries natural, artisanal formulas with the finest French fragrances.

Rrose is a fresh and dewy rose scent with petals of centifolia roses that sparkle with a peony bouquet and Sicilian lemon, all above a seductive base of spring musks and cashmere woods dry down.

Rrose has moderate sillage and above-average staying power. There’s nothing to dislike about Rrose, and if you’re a fan of fragrances like Jo Malone Peony & Blush Suede and you want something longer-lasting, this could be worth a sniff. It’s feminine and romantic without being cloying and sweet. And Rrose does not contain parabens, phthalates and the cap is biodegradable and contains no petrochemicals, so that’s a definite plus!

Ellis Brooklyn Rrose Body Milk
(Ellis Brooklyn Rrose Body Milk, $55)

Remember in junior high when a new Bath & Body Works body lotion scent would come out and you would have to run out and try it? That’s what Ellis Brooklyn has done with the Excellent Body Milks. These body milks are not your average scented body lotions: they’re luxury fragrances combined with a natural, elegant lotion. Infused with organic aloe leaf juice to soothe and calm, and organic oils like sunflower, coconut, and jojoba to nourish and moisturize, they leave your skin soft and hydrated – not to mention smelling divine.

If you’re wondering, what the hell is a body milk?, you know, versus say the traditional lotion or cream or butter, it’s a lightweight, non-greasy formula that melts straight into your skin. Meaning, you don’t have to rub for days for the product to be absorbed. The Rrose Body Milk has the same great fragrance as the Rrose Eau De Parfum, and it makes it perfect for layering in the morning to keep the fragrance lasting all night.

An Effective All Natural Retinoid Alternative | Kypris Moonlight Catalyst

Kypris Moonlight Catalyst

(Kypris Moonlight Catalyst, $77)

Ask any dermatologist what the gold standard is for anti-aging treatment and prevention, and you’ll receive one resounding answer: retinol. As we age, our skin-cell turnover rates slow down, paving the way for wrinkles, pigmentation and dullness. Retinol (or its more potent prescription form, retinoid) is a vitamin A derivative that speeds up cell regeneration rates for a fresher, smoother surface.

However, like many wonder products, retinol can come at a high price—many users experience skin irritation, dryness, sensitivity to sunlight, blistering, and redness due to the harsh concentration of enzymes in most retinol creams. Some also notice that after several years of use, retinol stops being effective, leaving their skin duller and looking more wrinkled than before. Retinol creams have even been linked to abnormal fetal development, and are not recommended for use by pregnant or breastfeeding women.

Holistic skincare brand Kypris create products that are made with organic, wildcrafted, and sustainably procured ingredients. There’s something mystical about the brand’s supercharged skincare – these products are as natural as can be, yet there’s powerful science behind them. The Moonlight Catalyst Serum, for example, uses herbal ingredients to mimic the brightening effects of retinol, but with none of the redness or peeling. Fermented pumpkin enzymes encourage cellular renewal, while biometric EGF – a vegan, non-GM peptide of epidermal growth factor – works to plump fine lines as neroli calms the skin.

Kypris Moonlight Catalyst 2
(Kypris Moonlight Catalyst, $77)

The gel texture of Moonlight Catalyst slides onto the skin and dries to a perfect, moisturizing finish. Your skin never feels heavy, oily or tacky — just perfectly quenched and ready for rest.

After a good night’s sleep, you wake to find my skin looking the way KYPRIS Moonlight Catalyst promises: Refined and renewed. It’s the look of a beautifully resurfaced skin that has fewer visible pores and a smooth appearance.

Go Buy Now: Replace Your Hand Cream & Facial Oil With Grown Alchemist

Grown Alchemist Hand Cream

It’s pretty remarkable to reflect on how much the natural beauty market has transformed over the past five years—namely that five years ago, the market was a fraction of what it is today. You can walk into any Sephora, Target, or even Walgreens and find a green beauty product you’ll love. Now brands like Grown Alchemist are raising the bar with smart packaging, chic, and downright covetable products.

Grown Alchemist is founded by Keston and Jeremy Muijs and is based in North Melbourne, Australia. Grown Alchemist are the new generation of organic skin, body, and haircare formulations. Natural technologies and transformative botanical ingredients—including collagen- and elastin-boosting actives, advanced peptides, hyaluronic acid, and powerful antioxidants—make it not only preferable but also possible to achieve real beauty results without harmful chemicals. Grown Alchemist motto is: “Regenerating beauty with superior results,” and I couldn’t agree more. Le Petit Mondea’s favorite GA picks are the lightly-scented Persian Rose hand cream that immediately absorbs without feeling greasy, and the Anti-Oxidant Facial Oil that includes bio active nutrients to stimulate the natural process of renewal and regeneration- it reduces wrinkles naturally!

Grown Alchemist Antioxidant Serum
(Grown Alchemist Antioxidant Facial Oil, $44)

Grown Alchemist’s ultra-clean formulas don’t just look (and smell) great. By marrying quality-sourced, highly potent plant-based ingredients they made it their M.O. to prove that natural products actually work better than synthetic-laden formulas. The hand cream does what it claims to do, it deeply hydrates without being heavy or leaving my hands greasy so I can move on to the next thing. Plus the scent is amazing, it’s light, floral, and not at all overpowering. The Anti-Oxidant Facial Oil has an uplifting aroma, it also absorbs well without leaving my face shiny. I like using a product that’s natural/botanical that prevents wrinkles, in the long-term I know I’m doing something great for my skin.

The Shimmer Oil that’s Permanently Extending my Summer Glow

Luxcey Zoé Or - Huile Sublime

(Luxcey Zoé Or – Huile Sublime, $90)

You already moisturize when you get out of the shower, why not try a shimmer body oil? My vampire-esq pale skin needed a little help recently so I tried something new and I’m currently obsessed over Luxcey’s all natural Zoé Or – Huile Sublime. It’s a hydrating body oil that gives the illusion of glowing skin with a finely-milled mica shimmer that slightly illuminates all while nourishing deeply with repairing Macadamia Nut Oil and firming Rosehip oil. It’s pretty amazing, a multitasker for covering superficial imperfections and creating a lustrous glow, which can be used in hair or on cheekbones for added highlight.

The scent is something special, it’s enticing and very unique. It’s a blend of fruits, flowers and spice extracts plus essential oils and flower infused. And I love the fact that Zoé Or – Huile Sublime is free of parabens, phtalates, sulfates, fillers, gluten, animal testing, mineral oils, and petroleum. This is my new summer skin care ritual.

Your New Skincare Must: Glycolic Acid

Beauty Rx Progressive Peel

(BeautyRx Progressive Peel, $69.95)

In “natural” #green skincare, there is plenty of talk about not putting chemicals on your skin. I don’t want to leave out the importance of using a great acid for exfoliation and anti-aging, and one of the best is glycolic acid. This acid is highly effective and can take you one step closer to perfect skin. It targets fine lines, brown spots, adult acne, enlarged pores, and can visually smooth the texture of the skin. Glycolic acid is more gentle because it has the smallest molecules which are able to penetrate your skin deeply and yield stronger results, including regenerating collagen.

Two great products I recommend that contain glycolic acid are from BeautyRx, which evolved from the board-certified dermatologist Dr. Neal Schultz, who for the last 30 years has maintained a thriving medical practice, Park Avenue Skin Care, on the Upper East Side of New York City. The Progressive Peel is a six week system that’s gentle yet delivers results super fast. I noticed my pores looking smaller by week two, a few breakouts I had cleared up, and my skin glowed my week four. And absolutely no irritation I get from retinoids. I recommend this peel if you’re new to the game of peels or looking for a refresher.

BeautyRx Gentle Exfoliating Eye Cream
(BeautyRx Gentle Exfoliating Eye Cream, $60)

I also have been using BeautyRx Gentle Exfoliating Eye Cream. An exfoliating eye cream, what? Too good to be true? Actually it isn’t. I wanted to wait a full three weeks of using it before reviewing and I’m telling you- go buy it now! The price is a little high but it’s worth it. It should be in stock at Sephora or Ulta because it’s that good if not better than most eye creams I’ve tried. It hasn’t irritated my skin, it’s made is smoother and brighter. My under eye circles don’t appear as prominent, and have faded slightly and that’s good enough for me.

2 Different Approaches To Body Care with Yuni | Mindful Beauty

(Yuni Rise & Chill, $35 | Yuni Wind-Down Wonder, $35)

YUNI is the first natural high performing beauty brand that is sustainable, convenient, and most importantly, a Yoga-inspired beauty brand. The products create a distinct and memorable experience – the “anchoring” moment with the product – including tactile and olfactory sensations, through the use of high-performance botanicals, unique aroma blends, cooling or warming effects and nature-powered ingredients. Formulated exclusively with natural aromas, YUNI is a fantastic brand to explore if you’re looking for non-toxic, plant-based, mindful body care options that are free of parabens, formaldehyde, petrolatum, SLS or anything questionable.

With the array of aromatic body oils we feature on Le Petit Mondea I couldn’t pass up the opportunity to feature Yuni for you guys. Even though they are labeled gels they are actually oils and are complete game changers. They are light-weight, and by light-weight I’m talking spray on and you’ll be downstairs out the door in morning rush-hour 10 minutes early, maybe 15. My favorite is the Wind-Down Wonder Warming Body Oil for its soothing and and warming treat to my muscles, thanks to the Copaiba, Inca, and Paracress Plant and the sensorial experience from aromatic blend of Bergamot, Cardamom, and Palmarosa to dissolve the stresses of the day.

Yuni 2
(Yuni Wind-Down Wonder, $35 | Yuni Rise & Chill, $35)

The Rise & Chill is the opposite sister it can cool, hydrate, and energize and is ideal for morning or as a pre or post-workout refresh. I think this is perfect and just in time for summer, when it’s hot outside-you’re laying by the pool and you need a quick refresh or you have a sunburn and the Aloe Vera, Peppermint, and Green Tea Extracts would instantly revive skin and active cooling from menthol in Peppermint would calm and reduce discomfort. Aloe Vera base acts as an inflammatory and soothing agent.

Get To Know Amy Chang Editor-in-Chief & Founder of BOND EN AVANT

Amy Chang of Bond En Avant

(Amy Chang of BOND EN AVANT)

Amy Chang is the founder and editor of BOND EN AVANT. A luxury beauty and lifestyle blog founded in 2016 and dedicated to thoughtful reviews, inspiring female stories, and showcasing brands that uplift women.

The lady’s super talented instagram feed @bondenavant has got me fixed to to screen, waiting for her next post. Get to to know the mega-babe below.

What made you decide to start BOND EN AVANT?
When I was in high school, I used to walk across the street from my neighborhood to the local grocery store and buy Harper’s Bazaar. Vogue always felt too inaccessible to me, too mature, but there was something about Harper’s I always loved. As I got older I continued to read Harper’s and I loved that each month they would have towards the back one in-depth editorial piece on the latest in skincare: lasers, peels, facelifts, etc. I always found it so interesting and I wished that I could read an entire magazine or platform with this type of content.
So, when I decided that I didn’t want to work in PR anymore and wanted to do my own thing, I decided to create a beauty blog dedicated to what I wanted to read – in-depth articles on plastic surgery, cosmetic treatments, and luxury skincare – on a platform that’s sophisticated, chic and geared towards a younger audience, like myself.
Why did you get involved in skincare?
Recently, when I turned thirty my parents made a scrapbook for me with drawings I had done when I was in grade school. There are crayon drawings in there of me drawing myself with perfume bottles and applying makeup! I even asked Santa Claus one year, while at a family friend’s holiday party, for my own bathroom! So safe to say I’ve always loved beauty!
When I was 19 years old I got a job working at a Shiseido counter and it deepened my knowledge about products, makeup application and skincare rituals. Then, when I turned twenty I started to get cystic hormonal acne. It was a nightmare for years! As I tried to to solve my skin issues, it took me down the skincare rabbit hole even deeper. I learned more and more about lasers, peels, and facials. I became so obsessed with skincare and I still am to this day even though, thankfully, now my skin doesn’t break out like it used to.
If you had to choose one, which skincare/beauty product would you not be without?
I did a round of Accutane when I was in my early twenties and am now paying the price for it with extremely dry skin, so moisture is essential to my skincare routine. It’s so hard to pick just one, but right now, I would have to say I can’t live without Lotus Moon’s Cherry Blossom Healing Soothe. Aside from being natural and made with organic ingredients, it has willowherb in it which is naturally anti inflammatory and soothing. It has been proven to work as effectively as 1% hydrocortisone at reducing inflammation and it’s natural!
What do you especially want people to know about BOND EN AVANT?
I want BOND EN AVANT to help women realize that if you want to lean into your vanity, if you want to get botox or laser or labiaplasty (which is one of the fastest growing procedures in 2016), or buy yourself a luxurious face cream that you can without judgement. I think there’s power in a woman’s right to choose for herself how she wants to look, age and be, and that’s what BOND EN AVANT is all about. Empowering women to lean into their vanity if they want to.
What do you think is the biggest misconception with the typical luxury consumer thinks about green products?
I think some consumers still think that green products aren’t as efficacious than traditional beauty, but that misconception is changing fast. There are SO many beautiful, luxurious and highly efficacious green beauty brands out there now that are changing the green beauty landscape. Susanne Kaufmann, Kjaer Weis, Lina Hanson, MayaChia, and Therapi Honey Skincare are a few to put on your radar, if they aren’t already!
Where do you see BOND EN AVANT 5 years from now?
At the end of this month BOND EN AVANT will be one year old! I’ve learned so much this past year and I can only imagine all of the things I hope to learn over the next five! I really want to just continue bringing BOND EN AVANT readers fun, interesting, insightful articles.
I am working on expanding the content. Coming in April there will be a nutritionist writing awesome, healthy skin supporting recipes and an esthetician coming on board to answer all of your questions in “Ask An Aesthetician.”
In five years from now, I hope to still be learning, growing and making BOND EN AVANT better for the readers every day.
Who inspires you in your work?
There are two podcasts that I listened to a lot the past couple of years, The School of Greatness and Girlboss. Both interview really inspiring entrepreneurs or experts in their field, from Tony Robins the motivational speaker to Payal Kadakia the founder of ClassPass. I’ve drawn so many insights from these interviews, like the power of visualization, meditation, planning and making goals. I can’t really single out one person, but collectively there have been so many inspiring people I’ve listened to on these podcasts. I suggest you check them out!
What’s the best piece of advice you’ve ever been given?
It’s not so much advice, but there is a quote from Meryl Streep that I just love where she says, “It’s amazing what you can get when you quietly, clearly and authoritatively demand it.” I’ve always been a people pleaser and there were times I didn’t speak up for what I wanted or deserved, and I missed out on many things. But now that I’m older,  I refuse to go through life like that anymore. Now, I always keep this quote in the back of my mind and ask confidently for what I want. It’s made me so much happier with myself and life.
