My One Day Detox Diary

I drink wine. I eat pizza. I do yoga regularly, but mostly for the Zen. I am not by any sense of the expression, what anyone would consider a ‘health nut’. But there’s something about a juice cleanse that had me curious. Maybe it’s my obsession with pop-cultural trends, maybe it’s my soul screaming for a detox (i.e. the wine and pizza) but I felt like it was my time to take this journey.

I decided on a one-day-juice-cleanse because honestly, that was the shortest and if I was committing, I WAS COMMITTING. I need to shout out LizzyJays Juices for helping me with my very first juice cleanse and sending me their Novice Cleanse, consisting of six of the most delicious juices I HAVE EVER TASTED. That’s not a plug, it’s 100 % legit. DELICIOUS.

I prepped the night before my cleanse by watching Naked and Afraid, telling myself that if these crazies could live on bacteria water and bugs for 21 days I could do one day of yummy juice. I woke up the morning of the cleanse and had my first juice, Crisp Greens, at 7:00 am and it actually gave me so much energy I didn’t even miss my morning coffee (THAT much). My next two at 9:00 am and 11:00 am were Carrot Twist and Watermelon Cooler and just as bangin’ as the first. By noon I wasn’t even hungry. I could totally do this. Next up at 2:00 pm was Mixed Veggie, and again, totally satisfying and delish. About an hour later, my energy levels were starting to crash and I was HUNGRY. I needed to get my mind off of waiting for my next juice. So I did some obsessive house-cleaning and before I knew it, it was 4:00 pm and time for Spicy Lemonade (again, yum). By 7:00 pm, I felt pretty amazing. Calm, clear, focused and alert. And definitely not hungry. I stretched my last juice to 7:30 and this one was by far my fave. An almost smoothie-like quality, Smooth Cashew gave me the protein I needed to end my day satisfied. A few hours later, I gave myself a mental pat on the back and drifted off into a very deep sleep. The next morning, I woke up feeling refreshed and rejuvenated and felt so good that I continued to eat lots of fruits and veggies. Even in the days following, the thought of heavy carbs and dairy made me queasy. Since finishing last week, I still feel cleaner and cannot wait for my next cleanse. This time I’m even stepping up my game and going for the three-day.
