To Michelle Chang, jewelry making is drawing, design, sculpture, and craft. It’s art embodied in a tiny object, one that can be worn to become a part of the person wearing it.
She finds inspiration in many things small and large, natural and man-made, living and inert. Every piece of jewelry is made by hand and therefore is unique. Hence, any noticeable imperfections it may have should merely add to its uniqueness and provide assurance that it was fabricated from start to finish by human hands.
After launching ‘Michelle Chang’ line in NYC, Michelle has since moved to the west coast. The jewelry is now made in sunny Los Angeles, CA. Her jewelry can be found on etsy and her official website.
Back in March I showed you one of my favorite pieces of jewelry by designer Jacquie Aiche, click to relive the glorious piece. I want to shine a little spotlight on the famed designer so you will find your next favorite piece from her.
Jacquie attributes the distinctive nature of her designs to her upbringing. Raised in a family with two diverse cultural influences (her father is Egyptian and her mother is an American Indian), she often blends elements of the two. She stated, “From my Father I think I have come to love reworking ancient designs such as goddesses and amulets and hammered gold, integrating these forms with contrasting natural minerals and gemstones, turquoise and fossils which are all reminiscent of the Native American jewelry of my mother’s heritage. Then of course, there is that funky, whimsical element that is all my own.”
She loves to travel the world in her constant search for new inspiration and unusual materials to incorporate into her work. Her personal perfection is reflected in the expert craftsmanship of each piece. Handcrafted in the United States or India, her jewelry is not only beautiful but also durable and comes with a warranty.
“Jewelry can be very powerful. When a woman wears a unique piece of jewelry, it can have a profound effect on the way she feels and the way people perceive her. I design jewelry to bring out aspects of a woman’s personality. Perhaps make her feel and appear more mysterious or more exotic or mischievous or more luminescent.”
With her jewelry now gaining worldwide attention, the list of loyal celebrity and professional clients is growing quickly with luminaries like Rihanna, Jennifer Lopez, Charlize Theron, Rachel McAdams, Emily Blunt, Penelope Cruz, Halle Berry, Demi Moore, Mary J. Blige, Alessandra Ambrosio, Rosario Dawson, Kerry Washington, Mary Louise Parker, Jessica Alba, and Faith Hill now being seen wearing her original designs. Also being featured In magazines, films and television.
“A woman’s natural beauty can be illuminated with the right piece of jewelry. And that is my mission. To create jewelry that will make every woman look and feel uniquely beautiful.”
